Who We Are

With the busy lives we lead, scheduling and keeping office visits has become increasingly difficult. E-counseling can eliminate the complications of living too far from a counselor, not having time to take off work, and having concerns about privacy. You don’t have to worry about someone seeing your car in the counselor’s parking lot.

At PathForward Counseling, we provide videocounseling. We do not provide phone therapy, chat rooms, or texting. These methods are valuable but not for us. Many would agree that face to face counseling is the most effective. However, recent studies show that videocounseling may be just as effective for some mental health issues. Other methods of counseling certainly have advantages, but real time videocounseling is what we choose. Downloading is not required by you to connect with us.

PathForward is a very small company. Although there are advantages of contacting an agency that has a referral base of 5,000 counselors, it may be difficult to sort through so many counselors in order to choose the right one for you. PathForward Counseling is selective of whom is associated with us. All of our clinicians are professionally licensed and are selectively chosen by the owners.

All of our videocounseling meets HIPAA requirements, therefore assuring security (the best that can be provided via distance therapy)

Who We are Not

We also understand the limitations of videocouseling. Videocounseling is typically somewhat short term. Although it is not an absolute, long term videocounseling is atypical. Also, videocounseling is not appropriate for all mental health issues. We cannot provide services for severe mental health issues that requires inpatient treatment. It is against Federal regulations (ASAM) to provide services for individuals that need intensive treatment. We cannot provide services for individuals who are suicidal or have intent to harm others. Nor do we provide services for children or juveniles.

Unfortunately managed care companies generally do not provide reimbursement for videocounseling. In time, no doubt they will, but not right now.
